Facility: Opened in 1959. Newly constructed school opened September 2004

Highlights for 2017-18

  • Spanish Dual Language program expanded to all kindergarteners, first and second graders
  • Teachers conducted Professional Learning Cycles with an emphasis on Shared Reading
  • Partnership with Seattle Art Museum provided teachers will art lessons and hosted Family Art Friday each month
  • Partnership with Tech Bridge provided hands-on science and STEM experiences for fifth and sixth grade girls in an after-school program
  • Students in the Disney Musical in Schools after school program held an outstanding performance of The Lion King
  • Girls on the Run after school program inspired fourth through sixth grade girls to have fun while promoting healthy habits

Plans for 2018-19

Staff at Madrona will continue to focus on the expansion of our Dual Language program, with an emphasis on Standards Based Instruction, particularly in the areas of math and literacy.

  • Literacy
    • Teachers will plan and teach lessons aligned to the Common Core State Standards
    • Students will have informal grade level assessments and progress monitoring through iReady to measure progress toward standards mastery
    • Instructional Planning Team will plan and conduct frequent instructional visits to classrooms to support strong instructional practices with an emphasis on informational texts
    • Teachers will have allotted time to collaborate in order to use student assessment data and plan targeted instruction for mastery
  • Math
    • Teachers will continue to focus on teaching a process for solving multi-step word problems based on Common Core State Standards
    • Students will be assessed using a common grade level assessment and scoring rubric
    • Instructional Planning Team will use student data to make instructional decisions based on student achievement
  • Dual Language
    • All kindergarten through third grade will be participating in our Dual Language Program
    • Our first phase of Dual Language will be rolling up to fifth grade
  • RULER
    • Teachers will create classroom charters, teach and use the tools of RULER and host parent events to teach families the components of RULER and how to use them at home
