Community to Vote on Future of Evergreen, Tyee & Pacific

Community to Vote on Future of Evergreen, Tyee & Pacific

Proposition 1

In November, the Highline community will be asked to vote on a bond measure that will continue our commitment to replace our aging school buildings with safe, modern learning facilities.

Our goal is to provide all Highline  students with safe, modern learning spaces. If Proposition 1 is approved, we will rebuild three of our oldest schools—Evergreen High School, Tyee High School and Pacific Middle School—while keeping taxes stable for homeowners.

The bond would also provide funding for needed upgrades at schools across the district, such as roofing, painting, carpeting and ventilation. It would pay for repairs when emergencies arise. Sylvester Middle School would receive a synthetic turf field and track to replace its dirt field.

Highline Public Schools has a 20-year track record of completing new schools on time and on budget. Projects completed with funding from the last bond were finished on time and $10 million under budget.

If approved, there will be no increase to current tax rate due to expiring school taxes. The bond would raise $518 million.

Election Day is November 8

In Washington, a school bond measure must be approved by 60% of the vote. All voting in Washington is done by mail and ballots must be returned by November 8.
